Part of being a parent is the duty to teach kids the responsible management of money. You won't be able to teach your kids this if you don't give them allowance, fearing that they will spend it lavishly.
However, new studies show that kids actually spend less when they are given allowances, especially if it is given for chores accomplished. This way, they learn the value of work.
